Current Air Quality

Air quality can vary quite a bit in an urban environment like the San Francisco Bay Area. Inversions can trap smog from motor vehicles and industry, especially during winter months. During summer and fall, ozone and smoke from wildfires can degrade the air quality, reducing visibility and posing a health concern, especially for sensitive people. Visit the resources below for current air quality information and smoke impacts to Alcatraz Island.

See live air quality data on particulate matter (PM) at the Alcatraz Dock. These graphs use the Air Quality Index (AQI), which is the standard tool of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to communicate air quality and provide health advisories.
