NPS Structural Fire program staff sometimes help introduce firefighting and other National Park Service careers to school students. The program offers internships to college students so they can begin to apply their knowledge to real-life situations. Get an inside view on the 10-day NPS National Structural Firefighting Academy, which is now professionally accredited by Pro Board, the national fire service qualifications board. The first credentialed NPS students have graduated from the program. Operational leadership was recently added to the national academy curriculum. Defensive Firefighting is another new addition to the training program. It helps wildland firefighters train to safely attack structural and vehicle fires.
