Buffalo National River seeks public comments for a plan to improve accessibility to visitors with disabilities

Harrison, Arkansas – Buffalo National River is seeking comments on a draft plan that provides for more inclusive experiences for visitors with disabilities. The draft plan, a self-evaluation and transition plan (SETP), identifies areas in the park where the accessibility of public structures, campsites, river access points, signs, and services can be improved.
 
The SETP outlines specific areas where accessibility barriers exist and identifies critical steps towards meaningful solutions. These opportunities for improvements will be a roadmap for future upgrades in the park as funding and compliance with federal laws, such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), allow.
 
“By better understanding the needs of today’s visitors, the park can work towards accessible solutions that accommodate the public,” said Superintendent Angela Boyers. “Our goal is to provide recreational opportunities that can be enjoyed by everyone.”
 
The National Park Service (NPS) looks forward to public input throughout this planning process. The draft SETP document is available on the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website and will be available for public review and comment starting on June 28, 2024, and ending on July 31, 2024.
