Conservation and Stewardship

Conservation means to protect natural, cultural, and historical resources, many of which can be easily destroyed. As a steward, you can help to protect our public lands, which are special places that we care about and need to preserve for future enjoyment and studies.

Read and complete the activities below to think about conservation and stewardship. Challenge yourselves further by thinking about ways to be stewards for your local area and at Florissant Fossil Beds as a visitor!

Cookie Conservation

Students will mine chocolate chips out of chocolate chip cookies as a proxy for fossil collecting. The point of this activity is to get students to think about how fossil collecting can make a public land site much less appealing to visit and eventually leave no fossils for future generations to see.
