Lassen Volcanic National Park Current Road Status

The main park road entirely opened to through traffic on May 23!  The snowplow crew began plowing the road from the Loomis Ranger Station to the Devastated Area on Thursday, March 6th.    The crew then began plowing from the southwest entrance of the road on March 31st. 

For trail updates follow this link.  Complete opening usually happens by mid to late June.  This page is not updated on weekends.

The road to Butte Lake is OPEN.

The road to Warner Valley and Drakesbad is OPEN.


The road to Juniper Lake is

The reddish color sometimes observed on top of snow at Lassen Volcanic NP snow is a living organism called snow algae. When snow begins to thaw, these microscopic organisms spring to life. They function as a primary food source and are being studied for their cancer-fighting properties.
