Mammoth Cave National Park is an exciting place for pets to visit along with their family while on vacation. Use the B.A.R.K. principles to ensure a fun and safe park visit for both you and your B.A.R.K. Ranger.

B.A.R.K. stands for:

• Bag your pet’s waste.
• Always leash your pet.
• Respect wildlife.
• Know where you can go.

Where can I visit with my pet?

To help everyone enjoy the park and for the safety of you, your pet, and park wildlife, the following regulations apply in Mammoth Cave National Park.

• Pets are not permitted in caves or park buildings.

• Pets must be leashed (up to 6 feet) at all times.

• Leashed pets are allowed on all surface trails in the park.

• Pet-friendly lodging available in the Woodland Cottages.

Tips for a great visit with your pet

• Do not leave pets unattended outside or inside your vehicle.

• During the summer, high temperatures can affect your pet, ensure your pet has enough water and snacks for a hike in the park.

• Pet waste must be immediately collected and disposed of in the nearest trash can.

• Pets and their owners may encounter horse riders on park backcountry trails. Please move yourself and your pet to the side of the trail and keep your pet calm while the riders pass by.  

 

Beware of ticks!

Ticks and other biting insects are present in Mammoth Cave National Park. Pet owners are encouraged to speak with their vet about ways to prevent tick bites on their pet during their park adventure.

 

Day-Boarding Kennel

The self-service outdoor kennel operated by The Lodge at Mammoth Cave can provide a safe place for your pet while you are on your cave tour. Kennels services are available for both large and small dogs or cats during daylight hours. Please note that proof of vaccination must be provided upon kennel entry. Dogs need proof of current inoculation against rabies, DHLP, Bordetella, and parvo.

Service Animals
