Elementary school-aged children and their parents are invited to enjoy a story read by a park ranger at 1:00 pm, followed by an interactive activity. This weekend's book is "The Big Tree" by Bruce Hiscock. After the story, children and their families are invited to stay for an activity where children can plant their very own sugar maple like the one featured in "The Big Tree." The general public is welcome to explore the Wayside, including the kitchen pictured above, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. "A daring and Violent attempt:" The Bermuda Powder RaidNorth Bridge Visitor CenterThursday, August 14, 2025 2:00 pm In the dead of night on August 14, 1775, Patriots in St. George, Bermuda, scaled the roof of a large storehouse containing hundreds of barrels of gunpowder. The Patriots opened a skylight, tossed a rope down inside, and slid into the darkness. They were aiming to secure a large quantity of powder desperately needed by the Continental Army outside of Boston, Massachusetts. Join Park Ranger, Jarrad Fuoss, 250 years later as he explores the daring Bermuda Powder Raid with all the thrills of an action movie. Join us for a special walk of the Elm Brook Hill battle site. Edmund Foster, a militiaman from Reading, Massachusetts (portrayed by park volunteer, Ed Hurley), will lead guests on a guided tour to the Elm Brook Hill (Bloody Angle) Battle Site where he fought on April 19, 1775. Foster will be joined by Lincoln, Massachusetts historian and author Don Hafner. |
