Casey Jones: The Brave Engineer

Sheet Music
Published by McBride Press
1909

Casey Jones was an engineer for the Illinois Central Railroad who had a reputation for staying on schedule. One night he was running fast to make up for delays, and did not see a train stalled on the track until it was too late to prevent a crash. He pulled the whistle, slammed on the brakes, and ordered his fireman to jump from the train. Jones was the only fatality in the wreck. The next day, Wallace Saunders, a locomotive wiper, wrote "The Ballad of Casey Jones," as a tribute. Since then, various versions of the ballad have been made including this one, "Casey Jones the Brave Engineer."
