Peter Hachart (also Heckhart) was a Private in Company E of the 9th Indiana infantry serving under Colonel William Hazen during the Battle of Stones River. The regiment was positioned at the edge of the Round Forrest near the Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad. On the first day of the battle of Stones River, December 31, 1862, these troops held their position while the Confederates continued to attack resulting in the name: Hell’s Half Acre. Peter died on January 2, 1865 in Tennessee and was first interred in Pulaski, Giles County.

He now rests in Stones River National Cemetery in plot J-4046.
