| Born 1831 in Troy, Maine Ira (Zelah Ira) Bennett resided with his family in Montville, Waldo County, Maine and worked as a farmer. In July 1862 Ira enlisted with the Maine Company B and was detached in December to Battalion B 1st RI Light Artillery. During the battle of Gettysburg on July 2nd Ira was killed in action. He was survived by his wife Lucinda (married September of 1856) and their three children - Mary 5, John 3 and Zela 10 months. |
