| Though there is no information available of where John Zimmila was born, records indicate that he lived in Providence, Rhode Island until enlistment in 1861. Further records indicate that he was wounded in the leg while serving with the Rhode Island 1st Light Artillery on September 17, 1862 at Antietam. John was ultimately killed in action when he suffered a wound to the head on the second day of fighting during the Battle of Gettysburg. |
