William Livergood (Liebergout) was born in Ohio, but his birthdate is unknown. He was born to John Livergood and Laura Williams Livergood. He enlisted and served as a Private with the 15th Indiana Infantry during the American Civil War and fought at the battle of Stones River. He died during the battle on January 1, 1863.

William Livergood is buried in an unmarked grave in Stones River National Cemetery.
