Sieur de Monts Stewards came from a collaborative effort with local school districts to monitor the changing climate in Acadia National Park and beyond. This program lasts 4 hours as students hike to unique locations in the park currently undergoing changes due to different forces. Students compare paleo-archeological data, historic information, and current science to problem solve real world issues. Standards based activities are used to hook students to compare and contrast different challenges in a constantly changing park.
The coast of Maine illustrates the human impacts and consequences in a way that helps students visualize change over time. Students are empowered to participate in valuable citizen science and respect the complicated decision making process all of us face as stewards of the planet.
