A Walk through History

The Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail is five sections of hiking trail running roughly parallel to the 444-mile long Natchez Trace Parkway scenic motor road.  The foot trails total more than 60 miles and offer opportunities to explore wetlands, swamps, hardwood forest, and the history of the area.

Highland Rim Section

This twenty mile section is a popular hiking and equestrian corridor for visitors south of Nashville in Tennessee.

Blackland Prairie Section

The Blackland Prairie Section is six miles in length located hear Tupelo, Mississippi.

Yockanookany Section

North of Jackson, Mississippi the Yockanookany Section is the longest of the five developed trail sections at 26 miles.

Rocky Springs Section

The Rocky Springs Section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail is a little over 6 mile section located near Port Gibson, Mississippi.

The Potkopinu Section is 3 miles long and it is longest section of Old Natchez Trace in the park.

Before you Go, Check to See if It's Open

From time to time, there are trail closers because of unsafe conditions. Some closures are short term, others are for years.

The visitor center is open 7 days a week during normal business hours. The visitor center is closed Thanksgiving, December 25th and January 1st.
