BAR HARBOR, MAINE – The Park Loop Road will close to motor vehicles for the season, with the exception of the two-mile section from the Sand Beach Entrance Station to Otter Cliff Road and access to the Jordan Pond area. Snowmobiles are permitted on the closed sections of the Park Loop Road and on the unplowed lane between the Sand Beach Entrance Station and Otter Cliff Road. In the event of inclement weather, all sections of the Park Loop Road may be closed.

The Park Loop Road remains open to pedestrians, bicyclists, and skiers. Pedestrians and bicyclists should be aware service vehicles may still be on the closed sections of the road. Bicyclists should also beware of closed gates across the Park Loop Road. Visitors can also enjoy the Park Loop Road on roller skates, skateboards, and roller skis while the road is closed to motor vehicles.

The Park Loop Road is routinely closed on December 1 of each year, but early winter weather can cause the road to close for the season earlier. The park website has the most current information on winter activities and road openings and closure. During the winter and spring season orientation to Acadia National Park is available at the Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center (located in Bar Harbor on the corner of Cottage and Main Street).
