Timelapses are a series of photos shot at a certain frequency and then sequenced together to create the illusion of time moving faster.

  Stars Over Sand Beach Timelapse

  Stars Over Sand Beach is a ranger-led astronomy program held at Sand Beach during summer months. Cars driving along the Park Loop Road and red lights from program attendees can be seen in the darkness. This timelapse is part of a series produced by Acadia Youth Technology Team (AYTT), an internship program with Friends of Acadia and the National Park Service.

  Little Cranberry Island Timelapse

  The Blue Duck is a historic building, owned and leased out by Acadia National Park, located on the coastline of Little Cranberry Island.   For 1.5 hours before and after low tide, a gravel bar is exposed connecting the town of Bar Harbor and Bar Island.

  Beech Mountain Fire Tower

  Visitors can hike a variety of trails to reach the fire tower. Beech Mountain is a popular place to watch sunset or view foliage change during autumn.

  Bar Island

  The "bar" or land bridge that forms between Bar Island and the shore of Bar Harbor is exposed for 1.5 hours on either side of low tide. This view is before that time frame when the bridge is not crossable.

  Frenchman Bay is a large bay located off the notheastern coast of Mount Desert Island. It can be viewed from various locations along the shores of Bar Harbor.

  Waterfall Bridge

  Waterfall Bridge is one of 16 carriage road bridges across John D. Rockefeller's carriage road system. It is named for its views of Hadlock Falls, a waterfall only seen during spring melt or heavy rains.

  Sea Foam on the Coast

  Sea foam accumulates on the coast and spills onto the road just north of Schoodic Point during a storm.

  Hiking Valley Cove Trail

  Virtually hike a rocky section of Valley Cove Trail. This trail runs along the edge of Somes Sound, a body of water roughly splitting Mount Desert Island into east and west sides.

  Take a virtual hike along the shores of Jordan Pond. The trail on the west side of Jordan Pond is a mix of narrow boardwalks and rocky sections near the water.

  Garter snakes are commonly seen at Acadia either slithering in the grass or across a trail.

  Porcupines are one of the largest mammals at Acadia, usually seen walking along the ground or climbing trees.

  American Bullfrog

  American bullfrogs are amphibians that inhabit ponds, lakes, and swamps across Acadia National Park. They are the largest frog species in North America.

  Sea stars are boneless echinoderms, spiny skinned animals who depend on their tough skin, made up of calcium carbonate, and plates for protection like a coat of armor.

  Periwinkles are marine snails that live in the intertidal zone. They can be found on rock, sand, or mud within tidepools along the North Atlantic.
