Park History

On Februrary 15, 2024, Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland formally established Amache National Historic Site in Colorado.

The park was authorized by the Amache National Historic Site Act signed by President Biden in March of 2022. The law enabled the National Park Service to work with the Town of Granada and other partners to aquire the land necessary for the official establishment of the park.

On May 18,1994, Amache was listed on the National Register of Historic Places and designated a National Historic Landmark on February 10, 2006. 

 

Firearms Regulations

As of February 22, 2010, a federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws to legally possess firearms in this park. It is the responsibility of visitors to understand and comply with all applicable state, local, and federal firearms laws before entering this park.

Please remember the discharge of firearms is illegal in national parks.
