Notes: He was about sixteen years old at the time of his baptism on September 25, 1792. He was given the name of Manuel at that time. It is at his marriage exactly one month later on October 25th, that he was referred to as José Manuel. He was also listed as José Manuel at his death two years later on October 18, 1794. There were only two years between his baptism and death but he went from an estimated age of 16 to 24 in that length of time (and it was Padre Carrillo who recorded both ages). Thus, he was born somewhere between 1770 and 1776. It is interesting that his parents had fled the mission and returned to live in the Papaguería. He came back, was instructed in "Christian Doctrine" and was baptized. One month later when he married Caietana Albizu, he was between 16 and 20, and she was thirteen.
