African American Civil Rights Network

African American retirees to Flagler County, Florida brought with them cultural, historical, educational, social, and organizational awareness. In the late 1980s, several groups of those individuals were operating youth or cultural programs in the county's black community. They joined together and Incorporated in 1991 as the African American Cultural Society, Inc. (AACS), a 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable organization. AACS owns and operates the African American Museum and Cultural Center of Florida bridging two of Flagler County's communities - Palm Coast and Bunnell. The Center's goal is to raise awareness of the African American experience and heritage in Flagler County and Florida through educational, artistic, intellectual, and social activities and services for the entire community.

The African American Cultural Center and Museum of Florida became part of the African American Civil Rights Network in 2022.

The African American Civil Rights Network recognizes the African American Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the sacrifices made by those who fought against discrimination and segregation. Created by the African American Civil Rights Act of 2017, and coordinated by the National Park Service, the Network tells the stories of the people, places, and events of the U.S. African American Civil Rights Movement through a collection of public and private resources to include properties, facilities, and programs.
