My Park Story: Cindy Stafford

Cindy Stafford is our Museum/Archives technician volunteer. She has been volunteering with the Cultural Resources division at Glen Canyon since 2014 and has spent ten seasons with our Interpretation division. She first fell in love with this desert landscape when she took a road trip to the Grand Circle in 1989. She quit her job to become a waitress at Zion just so she could hike every day and experience the beauty of the Grand Circle. Ever since, Cindy has had a keen interest in the history of this desert.

Going beyond her role as a volunteer, Cindy can be found retracing historic expeditions, identifying endangered plants, and using her special knowledge to give lectures to the public. She believes that the National Parks are a great resource for adult education. Visitors not only welcome, but often seek out deeper understanding and meanings when they visit the parks, and Cindy loves to educate visitors with all that she has learned in her various roles at Glen Canyon.

Cindy exemplifies excellence in her role as a volunteer through her passion for research and her thirst for knowledge on the complexity of social and ecological aspects of the history of Glen Canyon. We are so grateful to have such a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer like Cindy on our team!
