Please meet volunteers Jim and Bunny Hickey. They are full of love for park visitors and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Jim and Bunny have volunteered at Sleeping Bear Dunes for more than fifteen years.

Why do they return every year?

They enjoy watching visitors’ reactions over Sleeping Bear Dunes' dazzling beauty. They also recall many special volunteering moments.

For Bunny, it tugs at her heart when a disabled person uses one of the track chairs. Track chairs allow the whole family to enjoy the park together. It means so much to hear families’ gratitude and appreciation.

Jim recalls the time a retired US Coast Guard Commandant attended his talk on the Glen Haven Life Saving boat operations. Afterward, the Commandant thanked him for sharing this important piece of American history.

Both enjoy volunteer friendships and interacting with people from all over the world.

Do they think others should volunteer? Yes!

Thank you Jim and Bunny, for your continued work here at Sleeping Bear Dunes.
