The National Mall and Memorial Parks have a dedicated core of Volunteers In Parks, who transform the visitor experience for thousands every year.

Volunteers are integral to the stewardship of National Mall and Memorial Parks. Due to COVID-19, however, most individual volunteer work was suspended in March 2020. While this was disappointing for many of our dedicated volunteers, some still found ways to serve. In 2020 we began a pilot program with the Trust for the National Mall to provide volunteer visitor services at the newest memorial on the National Mall, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Memorial. The team at the Trust helped recruit, train, and support a group of volunteers who started working with visitors at this Memorial after its September 2020 opening. All volunteers follow social distancing and masking protocols. Collectively, individual and group volunteers contributed over 21,000 hours to various activities in 2020 at National Mall and Memorial Parks.
