Route 66: Preserving Cultural Landscapes

Route 66 is a vast expanse of connected cultural landscapes, including historic districts, farmland, viewscapes, and all the “spaces in-between” that are integral to the Route 66 experience of movement through space and time. Cultural landscapes are important touchstones of national, regional, and local identity, and foster a sense of community and place. They are also fragile places, affected by the forces of nature, commercial and residential development, vandalism and neglect.
