San Diego African American Museum: "We Stand On Their Shoulders"
African American Civil Rights Network
The San Diego African American Museum of Fine Art in San Diego, California was established to preserve and present the art of African Americans globally and to broaden the knowledge and understanding of the visual arts in Southern California and the city of San Diego.
The museum has created an augmented reality (AR) exhibit, “We Stand on Their Shoulders”, to highlight African American residents in San Diego who've led the way in the struggle for Civil Rights. The exhibit is scheduled to be installed in the Marie Widman Park, part of the city's newly designated San Diego Black Arts + Culture District in its Encanto neighborhood.
The San Diego African American Museum's exhibit "We Stand On Their Shoulders" became part of the African American Civil Rights Network in 2023.
The African American Civil Rights Network recognizes the African American Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the sacrifices made by those who fought against discrimination and segregation. Created by the African American Civil Rights Act of 2017, and coordinated by the National Park Service, the Network tells the stories of the people, places, and events of the U.S. African American Civil Rights Movement through a collection of public and private resources to include properties, facilities, and programs.
