The Save America’s Treasures (SAT) grant program was established in 1998 and first awarded grants in 1999 to help preserve nationally significant historic properties and collections that convey our nation’s rich heritage to future generations.

Eligible properties include individually listed National Historic Landmarks or contributing properties within a National Historic Landmark district and individually listed properties in the National Register of Historic Places for national significance or contributing properties within a nationally significant National Register Historic District. Nationally significant collections are also eligible for funding, given that an application supports its national level of significance in a thorough description. Collections include artifacts, documents, sculptures and other works of art.

Since 1999, there have been more than 4,000 requests for funding totaling more than $1.54 billion. More than $315,700,000 has been awarded to 1,300+ projects. The related People and Places articles listed here show examples of projects that have been funded and successfully completed through this program.
