Tuskegee History Center (Tuskegee, Alabama)

African American Civil Rights Network

Established in 1997, the Tuskegee History Center (formerly the Tuskegee Human and Civil Rights Multicultural Center) is located in Tuskegee, Alabama. The center was originally founded to serve as a permanent memorial to the victims and survivors of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, conducted between 1932 and 1972.

The Tuskegee History Center houses a museum and has expanded its mission to include the preservation and recognition of Alabama’s Native American, European American, and African American cultures and heritage.

The Tuskegee History Center became part of the African American Civil Rights Network in 2022.

The African American Civil Rights Network recognizes the African American Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the sacrifices made by those who fought against discrimination and segregation. Created by the African American Civil Rights Act of 2017, and coordinated by the National Park Service, the Network tells the stories of the people, places, and events of the U.S. African American Civil Rights Movement through a collection of public and private resources to include properties, facilities, and programs.
