2020 Midwest Region Hartzog Youth Group Volunteer Award winners: Beatrice High School Transitional Work Experience Program

Beatrice High School Transitional Work Experience Program was selected as the 2020 Midwest Region Hartzog Youth Group Volunteer Award winners. The work of the students is part of long-standing partnership between Beatrice Public Schools and Homestead National Historical Park. This partnership has been in place for more than 10 years.

This group of volunteers have become affectionately known as the “Tuesday Kids” because of their commitment to volunteering at the Park on Tuesdays. The Tuesday Kids help with various projects at the Park. Some of the duties include, cleaning auditorium chairs, wiping down interpretive exhibits, helping the Park prepare for programs by setting up program sites, and promoting universal accessibility by changing out the batteries in the audio-description stations.

Students who have participated in this volunteer group have formed connections to Homestead National Historical Park because of this partnership with Beatrice Public Schools. Park staff not only benefit from the work that the group assists with, but also by meeting and working alongside this group of engaged motivated youth.
