Chisos Backpacking Site Regulations
YOU are responsible for protecting YOUR park.

Chisos Mountains Backpacking Campsites offer nice views, solitude, and a small flat gravel space to set up camp. A bear proof food locker is provided to store your food and water. No toilets, water, or amenities are provided. Be a steward of the land; during your visit to Big Bend, do everything you can to minimize your impact on the landscape.

  • Pets are NOT allowed on park trails or in the backcountry
  • Campfires are NOT allowed in Big Bend. Use only a gas/propane backpacker stove.
  • Smoking is prohibited along all trails and at all Chisos Backpacking Campsites.
  • Hammocks may not be attached/tied to any trees or natural features.
 

Directions

The Laguna Meadow campsites are located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) from the Basin trailhead via the Laguna Meadow Trail (or 6.5 miles/10 km via the Pinnacles and Colima Trails). Campsite #3 is located along a spur trail, just west of the Blue Creek Trail Junction.

Campsite Specifics

Laguna Meadow Campsite #3 is a nice site with adequate shade. The site is secluded among a grove of Pinyon pines. Views from the campsite area are great.
Campsite Capacity: Maximum 6 people and 2 tents

 

Usual Trail Conditions

The Laguna Meadow Trail is a gradual climb in elevation (1,600 ft/487 m). There are several sections of switchbacks. Views are great and the trail is usually in fine condition year-round.

 

Water Sources

None. There is NO water anywhere near Laguna Meadows. It is vital that you carry adequate water for drinking, cooking, and washing.
Plan on at least 1 gallon (4 l)/24 hours/person.
