Lovell, WY – It is hard to believe that school has started, and it is time for Bighorn Canyon to start to prepare for fall.

On the North District of Bighorn Canyon National Recreational Area near Fort Smith, MT, the Ok-A-Beh Marina closes September 13th.  The concession docks will be removed on September 13th.  All boats must be off the docks by the end of the day September 12th.  The Grapevine Campground remains open, but the Afterbay Campground will be closed on September 7th so crews can start the campground improvement projects.  Site improvements, water and electricity will be added.  The docks at Black Canyon and floating restrooms at Dryhead and Dayboard 9 will be removed the week of September 13th.  The Yellowtail Dam Visitor Center will close for the season at 4:30 PM on September 6th.  The courtesy dock at Ok-A-Beh marina will stay in the water until water temperature turn to freezing to allow boaters to continue to enjoy the beautiful fall colors on the lake.

On the South District of Bighorn Canyon near Lovell, Wyoming, all facilities remain open until later in the fall.  The Bighorn Canyon Visitor Center will go to winter hours starting September 26th.  Winter hours are Monday through Saturday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, closed on Sunday.

Bighorn Canyon is updating the fire restrictions for the park.  Starting September 3rd, fires will be allowed in NPS designated and installed fire rings, grills or grates only.  Visitors may use devices using pressurized liquid or gas (stoves, grills or lanterns) that include shut-off valves when used in an area at least three feet or more from flammable material such as grasses or pine needles.  Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire / campfire under the high-water mark of Bighorn lake is prohibited.

Fall is an amazing time to go for a hike, to enjoy the lake one more time, and to take the time to watch the wildlife.
