Field trips and site visits to the monument are offered year round, but come prepared for the weather. Summers can be hot and muggy. Winters can be cold and windy.

Any group (school, religious, family reunion, etc.) with 15 people or more visiting the national monument and wanting a ranger talk should book a program. Please submit your request 2 weeks before desired program date. Requests made less than 2 weeks of desired date or programs for drop in groups will be considered but may not be able to be accommodated due to limited staffing.

Park Rangers provide interactive and informative experiences for students and groups using their historical knowledge. They encourage active participation, critical thinking, and analyzing connections between historical events. Field trips to the national monument can include several sites around Birmingham, Alabama, including the locations below.

    A.G. Gaston Motel

    The A.G. Gaston motel served as a safe space for black travelers and a meeting point for Civil Rights leaders.

    Kelly Ingram Park is where protests started. It is also where children protestors were violently attacked in the Birmingham Campaign.

Privacy Act Statement

Authority: Public Law 114-289 National Park Service Centennial Act and 54 U.S.C. 100701 Protection, interpretation, and research in System.

Purpose: To administer education programs for education audiences including but not limited to school groups, scouting groups, extracurricular groups, and home school groups.
