Motorcycle Fatality near Milepost 377 along the Blue Ridge Parkway

Asheville, NC – On Monday, September 9, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., National Park Service dispatchers received a call from members of a motorcycle riding group reporting a motor vehicle accident near milepost 377 on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Buncombe County fire personnel arrived on scene to find the motorcycle operator deceased. The operator of the motorcycle was identified as Albertaus Peek, age 67, of Bodegraven, Netherlands.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Peek was traveling southbound with a group of riders when he failed to navigate a turn, left the lane, and hit a vehicle traveling northbound. The driver of the northbound vehicle sustained minor injuries.
