WELLFLEET, Mass— Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent Brian Carlstrom has announced that Dan McCarthy has been selected to serve as the new Chief of Facilities at Cape Cod National Seashore.

McCarthy’s previous positions have provided him wide-ranging experience that will serve him well in this new assignment. For the past three years he has served as the Supervisory Facility Specialist at the Statue of Liberty National Monument. McCarthy focused on maintenance operations, project management, natural and cultural resource compliance, managing budgets, developing employees, and improving morale. In addition, McCarthy has been engaged in a variety of special assignments. He was the chair of the National Park Service (NPS) Washington Office Chainsaw Safety Work Group, a mentor and graduate of the Facility Manager Leaders Program, a representative of New York Harbor Parks on the NPS Region 1 Maintenance Advisory Group, a program manager for the NPS Arborist Incident Response program, and a Safety Officer trainee on the Eastern Incident Management Team.

Prior to working at the Statue of Liberty, McCarthy was the Chief of Facilities at Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park, New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, and Roger Williams National Memorial. In this role, McCarthy designed and implemented the new three-park facility management program including staffing and assets management plans. McCarthy started his NPS career at Boston National Historical Park in the early 1990s as a laborer and gardener.

McCarthy and his family have moved to Cape Cod, where they join extended family members. They are happy to be home.
