WELLFLEET, Mass.– Cape Cod National Seashore’s Atlantic Research and Learning Center will host the twelfth annual Science in the Seashore Symposium on Thursday, September 21, from 9:30 am to 1 pm. The event will be available to an in-person audience at the Salt Pond Visitor Center but also available to remote attendees online through Microsoft Teams. The event is free and open to the public.

The Science in the Seashore Symposium is a great opportunity to learn about the current scientific research happening at Cape Cod National Seashore from the experts working in the park. There will be seven engaging presentations with opportunities to ask questions. Topics include eelgrass restoration in Pleasant Bay, horseshoe crabs in East Harbor, historical preservation at the Penniman House, and nutrient levels in kettle ponds, to name a few.

The Atlantic Research and Learning Center at Cape Cod National Seashore, the host of the symposium, is one of seventeen research and learning centers in the National Park system. Science and education come together at these centers to preserve, protect, manage, and understand park resources.

The 2023 Science in the Seashore Symposium is sponsored by Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore. The Friends have been the national seashore's philanthropic partner since 1987, and sponsors of the Nickerson Fellowship, which provides annual grants for research in the national seashore.

More information about the event can be found on the Symposium webpage: https://www.nps.gov/caco/learn/nature/science-in-the-seashore-symposium.htm

Please register for the event regardless of whether you plan to attend virtually or in-person, to ensure that you receive any updates about the program.

Look for official announcements about the Science in the Seashore Symposium on the national seashore’s website, www.nps.gov/capecod, on the park’s Facebook page, and on Twitter at @CapeCodNPS.
