EASTHAM, Mass. – Photographs by Jane Paradise will be featured at Cape Cod National Seashore’s Salt Pond Visitor Center in October. The exhibit is part of the seashore’s ongoing series - Perspectives: Seeing Cape Cod National Seashore Through Art.

On the wild back shore of Provincetown, Massachusetts, writers, artists, and families made summer homes in the early 1900s. Affectionately called the dune shacks, some were originally lifesaving huts from the late 1890s. The dwellings that exist today were constructed from the 1920s through 1950s, often out of salvaged materials and even pieces of shipwrecks.

Through her photographs, Paradise gives a glimpse of what it is like to live in a dune shack and experience the dune landscape. Paradise’s work captures her visits to various dune shacks in the national seashore over the course of a decade. Her work captures the intimate connections between people and their environments worldwide. Whether momentary or permanent, the images reflect a deeply felt longing for “home.”

Alden Gallery in Provincetown MA and Galatea Fine Art in Boston represent Paradise. She has shown with the International Biennial of Fine Art and Documentary Photography in Buenos Aires, Malaga, and Berlin, and at the Gallery of Photography in Ireland. Her photographs are in the collection of the Southeast Museum of Photography and in private collections in the United States and Europe. Most recently, her photographs of the dune shacks were featured in the March/April 2017 issue of ArtScope Magazine in conjunction with that exhibit at Galatea Fine Art.

A public reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, October 6, from 1-3 pm in the exhibit room at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham.
