WELLFLEET, Mass. – Cape Cod National Seashore’s Perspectives: Seeing Cape Cod National Seashore Through Art, exhibits the work of artists who have captured the essence of Cape Cod through a series of month-long exhibitions at the park’s Salt Pond Visitor Center. For the month of July, the park will host Jim Gillen of Hampden and Harwich, for his show titled, Cape Cod on Canvas II.

Gillen’s passion for photography has spurred him for more than 40 years, and he brought this fervor to one of his favorite photographic subjects, Cape Cod. Working on the other side of the aisle in the newspaper industry, as a reporter and editor at The Republican in Springfield, Gillen explored photography as a hobby through the years to expand his creativity.

“Cape Cod, Nantucket Sound, the Atlantic Ocean and Cape Cod Bay are among my favorite subjects,” said Jim.

Gillen’s photos have been featured at two previous exhibitions at Salt Pond Visitor Center. Two of his images also were displayed recently in a Springfield Photographic Society exhibit at the D’Amour Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield. One of his images, Don’t Walk, received first place in black and white photography at the 2023 Photography Show in Somers, Connecticut. Mr. Gillen is a member of the Springfield Photographic Society.

Monthly artist exhibitions will continue to take place through December 2023 at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham. Past exhibits have included historic images; landscape artwork developed by Nauset Regional High School art students; national seashore-inspired quilts; Wampanoag culture; and art and literature inspired by the beauty of the national seashore.
