The waters of the Nanticoke River in Delaware make up the Chesapeake Trail's eastern extent. Much of the Nanticoke River still reflects the landscape that the Kuskarawoak Indians, today known as the Nanticoke, would have experienced prior to the arrival of Europeans. Wide marshes and a deep channel make for excellent boating and paddling on the river.

Delaware is a small but integral part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Parts of New Castle, Kent, and Sussex counties are located within the watershed. There are many opportunities to explore the outdoors or discover Delaware’s rich cultural history in this small but mighty state.
