Wilson's-Gonzales'-Hughes' Battery was organized at Houston, Texas, during the summer of
1862. The unit was attached to the Trans-Mississippi Department and served at Houston, Galveston, and Sabine Pass. It also was involved in
the operations in Louisiana on the west bank of the Mississippi River. In 1864 it was assigned to
the 7th Artillery Battalion and included in the surrender on June 2, 1865. The battery was
commanded by Captains Robert J. Hughes, Thomas Gonzales, and George R. Wilson.
