Not a Good Choice!

4. Inspect your gutters frequently, and clean them:

B. When you see water pouring down the side of the house.

That's certainly not a recommended approach to maintenance! If water is pouring down the side of your house, it's already too late. Your gutters and downspouts are clogged with debris. The water is simply moving any way it can to reach the ground.

Please alter your home-care habits right away! Avoid major repair and replacement problems by checking gutter and downspout connections monthly, for starters. Then, at a minimum, clean the gutters and downspouts at least twice a year--late Spring and late Fall. This may vary depending upon the number of trees growing near the house. But, by all means, clean as often as it takes to keep them clear of debris. The rain should flow freely from the roof into the gutters, drop through the downspouts, and be carried safely away from your foundation walls through appropriate grading.
