When wildland fire burns into a National Park, park managers take action. They make informed decisions to protect the public, park communities and infrastructure. Park managers also manage fire to conserve natural and cultural resources. As fire can be a valuable tool to maintain and restore natural ecosystem processes.

In Alaska, fire is a natural disturbance and a vital part of boreal forest and tundra ecosystems. Lightning-caused fires are an important process in forest and tundra of Denali. Fires reduce the buildup of fuels and release valuable nutrients held in the soil. They rejuvenate plant-life and contribute to the vitality of species important to wildlife.
