Death Valley, CA-Firefighters have contained a 15 acre wildland fire on Thursday near historic Scotty's Castle in Death Valley National Park. Scotty's Castle is a Spanish style mansion built in the 1930s that hosts daily living history tours. The Castle is closed until water and power are restored to the area. Bonnie Clair Road (Scotty's Castle Road) is closed between the junction of Big Pine Road and three miles east of the Castle. The remainder of the park remains open to visitors, including the road to Ubehebe Crater and the Racetrack. The revised acreage was adjusted as crews on the ground were able to more accurately measure the burned area. Crews will spend Thursday mopping up hot spots. Continued monitoring will continue through next week. Crews from the Bureau of Land Management and the U. S. Forest Service assisted a National Park Service initial attack crew on Tuesday, May 22nd. -NPS- |
