Dinosaur, Colo. – The National Park Service (NPS) proposes to demolish and replace the condemned Yampa District Multi-Operations Building. Constructed in 1963 the one-story concrete block building was condemned due to shifting sub-surfaces that resulted in foundation movement and the failure of supporting walls. A replacement building would be constructed adjacent to the site of the existing building. Work on this project, funded by NPS Line-Item Construction Program, is proposed to begin with demolition of the condemned building in April 2026, and potential completion of the new building in July 2027.

The Yampa District Multi-Operations Building is a contributing resource to the Canyon Area and Harpers Corner Road Historic District, which is eligible to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The historic district is significant for its association with the NPS Mission 66 program, a ten-year program (1956-1966) that expanded visitor services and modernized park facilities in time for the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the National Park Service.

Because demolition of the Yampa District Multi-Operations Building would result in an adverse effect to a historic property under the National Historic Preservation Act, the NPS invites public comment on the proposed demolition and construction of a replacement building. For more information about the history of the Yampa District Multi-Operations Building and the proposed demolition, as well as to comment on the proposed project, the public is invited to visit the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) site at https://parkplanning.nps.gov/ReplaceYampaMultiops2024. Comments will be accepted from July 17 – August 7, 2024, and may be submitted online through the PEPC website or mailed to:
