Rapidan Camp
Servants' Quarters

Servants preparing an outdoor table, standing next to President Hoover.

Although no known picture exists of the Servants Quarters, it was the building that housed the staff. Hoover decommissioned the Presidential Yacht which had been staffed by a group of Filipino men. Not wanting to leave them unemployed, he offered them jobs at Rapidan. The men shown in the white coats had previously staffed the yacht and moved to the mountains of Virginia to serve at the President's camp. After their deaths, records revealed that the Hoovers sponsored some of these employees' educations.

Which place do you think they liked better? Why?
