Celebrating National Park Week With A Volunteer Tree Planting Event

A planned 150,000-tree reforestation effort will kick off over the next two weekends. Nearly 15,000 seedlings - a mixture of a dozen native conifer and deciduous species - will be planted on April 20-21 and April 27-28. A group of 600 volunteers, under the guidance of tree-planting experts and professional landscapers, will be planting these legacy trees as part of the first stage of the multi-year reforestation effort. The trees are part of the overall design of the Flight 93 National Memorial and will form an essential windbreak to protect trees planted in the nearby memorial groves.

WHAT: Tree Planting Kick-Off

WHEN: April 21, 9:30am - 10:00am brief remarks; 10am - 4pm tree planting

WHERE: Flight 93 National Memorial, enter from U.S. 30 and follow directions to future visitor center parking lot. 

INTERVIEWS: Representatives from the National Park Service and the many partners participating in the event will be available for interviews. A complete listing of all partners will be available at the event. Power is not available.

NOTE: The maximum number of tree planting volunteers have been registered. Additional volunteers are not being sought. The Memorial will be open to the public for normal hours of operation.
