Voices from the past speak to us about the events that occurred at this Civil War site. We learn a great deal from the military leaders and also the soldiers.

Civilians, including many women, volunteered to help with the care of wounded soldiers. Newspaper writers and traveling artists documented the story with prose and sketches.

Refugees, including enslaved African Americans, sought refuge and protection at the three forts.
