On June 6, the National Park Service (NPS) provided notice to AACON General Contractors, LLC that AACON's right to proceed further under the Fort Donelson National Battlefield Visitor Center rehabilitation contract was being terminated for default. The period of performance had expired, and the contractor failed to complete the work within that time. The rehabilitation project includes an addition and modifications for significant accessibility, safety, and visitor benefits to the 62-year-old facility, while maintaining the historic character of the building’s Mission 66-era design. The NPS is working through next steps and remains committed to providing visitor services to the community and the public.
