Memorial Day weekend at Fort Larned NHS this year was a great success! We thank all our wonderful volunteers who helped bring the fort to life — the event wouldn’t be the same without these dedicated people. And we also thank all those who came to visit. We hope a good time was had by all. In case you missed the event, or you’re interested in re-living parts of it, enjoy this short recap video.

Lynn King and Jeff Weisbeck stayed onsite in their RV from late September-mid December 2023. They were a great help to the park and to the park's visitors. Enjoy this video where they share their National Park Service experiences, their experience at Fort Larned NHS, and their encouragement for others to visit and volunteer at National Parks.

While Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day Weekend 2021 were a little rainy, perfect weather was had on Saturday. That one beautiful weather day also happened to be the day we cut the ribbon for our brand new museum exhibits. Along with speakers, we also had special performances and living history demonstrations to highlight the many cultures that would have been found at Fort Larned. Enjoy this recap of the weekend!

Holidays at posts like Fort Larned were a very welcomed break from the monotonous life and tasks that the enlisted men experienced. While you would find a good many men celebrating the day, you might also find others catching up on some chores or work that had been pushed off. Another break from the monotony would be a sensational event, such as a prairie wolf appearing on the post!

In 1867, Santa decided he had to visit Fort Larned to determine who was naughty or who was nice. Becoming a soldier for a day would be the best way to figure out what his list would look like.
