POINT MARION, PA – On Saturday, August 31, and Sunday, September 1, 2024, the National Park Service and Friendship Hill Association invite the public to attend a Whiskey Rebellion event at Friendship Hill National Historic Site, the home of Albert Gallatin. The event will feature 18th-century artisans demonstrating blacksmithing, wood carving, pottery, soap making and other educational displays. There will also be food vendors and a living history program. On August 31, the Westmoreland Archaeological Club will display its collection in the Gallatin House.

Albert Gallatin, portrayed by Ron Duquette, will attend the weekend’s events. Learn about Gallatin’s return to America after serving in France for almost seven years as our ambassador. Park staff and volunteers in costume will present a program on the artillery brought over the Allegheny mountains to suppress the rebellion in 1794. Cannon talks and firing demonstrations are on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

“This event is an excellent opportunity to highlight the role the Whiskey Rebellion and Albert Gallatin had on both regional and American history,” said Friendship Hill National Historic Site Chief of Interpretation and Site Manager Brian Reedy.
