Release Date: May 8, 2012 Contact: Lorenzo Vigil, Lorenzo_vigil@nps.gov 505-425-8025 "The Sun, Moon, and Stars Above the Santa Fe Trail" Come join the rangers at Fort Union National Monument on Sunday, May 20, 2012 between 6:00PM and 9:30PM for a special astronomy program entitled "The Sun, Moon, and Stars Above the Santa Fe Trail."During the program, visitors will have the opportunity to witness the first solar eclipse that will be observable in the United States in over 18 years. Specialized solar viewing glasses will be available for this event. Afterwards, visitors will explore the beauty of the night sky while viewing the stars, constellations, and planets through a telescope. Flashlights, bottled water, and seasonal clothing are recommended for this free event. Fort Union National Monument is located near Watrous, NM exit 366 off I-25, 8 miles west on NM-161.
