Contact: Heidi Pierson, 503-656-5151 OREGON CITY, OR - The McLoughlin House unit of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site will be open to the public on Saturday February 9 and Saturday March 9 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm to showcase the cultural demonstration series. The hands-on demonstration for February 9 will be lace-effect Berlin wool work, a needlework technique that mimics black lace. The March 9 demonstration will teach visitors silk ribbon embroidery, a beautiful and colorful way to embellish many items. "Hands-on demonstrations are great way to learn something new," said Tracy Hill, the McLoughlin Memorial Association (MMA) coordinator, "we look forward to sharing a variety of handwork skills with the public this year." The McLoughlin House will also be hosting an exhibit of Civil War-Era quilts from local quilt historian Eileen Trestain's personal collection. "I am very pleased to be able to share these quilts with the public," said Museum Technician Heidi Pierson, "we do not often get the chance to observe such beautiful and well-preserved quilts." The complete exhibit will open on March 15, but a preview of the quilts will be available February 9 and March 9. McLoughlin House Site Open: Saturday, February 9; 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 9; 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. March 15 the McLoughlin House will officially re-open for the year. McLoughlin House Site 2013 Hours: Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Barclay House is open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The McLoughlin House is available by free tour at 10:15 am, 11:15 am, 12:15 pm, 1:15 pm, 2:15 pm, and 3:15 - tours begin at the Barclay House.
