POINT MARION, PA - The National Park Service unveiled a trail marker commemorating the farewell tour of the Revolutionary War hero, the Marquis de Lafayette, when he visited Friendship Hill. The dedication took place at 11 a.m. at Friendship Hill National Historic Site at the visitor parking lot on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.

“It’s nice that we now have recognition of Lafayette’s important visit to Fayette County and Friendship Hill," said Friendship Hill National Historic Site Chief of interpretation and Site Manager Brian Reedy.

The marker is part of The Lafayette Trail and was made possible through the generous work and contributions of The Lafayette Trail, Inc. and the William G. Pomeroy Foundation.

Friendship Hill is the historic country home of Albert Gallatin.  Gallatin is best known for serving as Secretary of Treasury under Presidents Jefferson and Madison.  Friendship Hill National Historic Site is located on Rt. 166 between Point Marion, PA, and New Geneva, PA.
